(More customer reviews)I bought this keyboard mainly due to the fact that I have read good reviews and the fact that I have always liked the EMU sounds. I use this kind of keyboard mainly in the studio as MIDI controller but occasionally it is used for composing just as a stand-alone unit with a pair of head-phones. This unit is a fantastic MIDI keyboard! However in my experience it has some manufacturing and design flaws. Especially if you want to use this as a STAND-ALONE instrument.
This particular unit I bought had loud static noises when used stand-alone with head-phones. Static was in both of the head-phone jacks and was influenced by the volume knob, probably due to poor shielding of the wires. So you could not play comfortably with the head-phones attached directly to the keyboard. Of course if you run it through your MIDI set-up and through your computer+soudcard all was fine. But I bought this keyboard because I wanted the 2 options. I wanted the option to just turn on the keyboard and quickly check a song idea or just play it without turning on my whole set-up! If I just wanted a MIDI controler I could have gotten a decent one for half the price.
I have returned this item and I bought another one, a 61-key LONGboard (same EMU instrument with 61-keys). This time the static was much less noticeable, however it was not fully gone so you still did not get a crisp sound like should be expected. My 61-key LONGboard had another problem. The column keys in the sound-matrix did not work, hence not allowing me to choose any sounds apart from the first column (the pianos) and not allowing access to the sound-memory data base. I returned this one too.
I would suggest EMU and Creative to check their manufacturing and Quality Control and fix these simple deficiencies which make me feel like NOT getting another EMU product.
